Sportivate is a £56million National Lottery funded programme which launched in June 2011 as part of the London 2012 legacy project. The aim of the project is to capture and prolong the excitiment and success of London 2012 by providing attractive sporting opportunities for young people aged 11-25 years, currently described as semi-sporty. Individuals involved in a Sportivate programme receive 6-8 weeks of coaching which aims to support and guide the individual into regular participation within local clubs in the community.
Sportivate is part of the 'Play' strand of Sport England's London 2012 Mass Participation Legacy Programme 'Places People Play'. Originally, Sportivate was launched as for four-year programme from June 2011 to March 2015. However, due to its' success, additional funding of £10million per year has been invested, allowing the project to continue until March 2017.
New for September 2013, Sportivate has extended its' age bracket meaning that 11-13 year olds are also able to take part in programmes.
