Beat the Street

Beat the Street is an innovative physical activity game that has engaged more than a million people. It will will take place in South Charnwood from October 6th to November 3rd 2021 thanks to a National Lottery grant from Sport England. South Charnwood will turn into a real-life game and residents will soon start to see special sensors called Beat Boxes appearing on lampposts around the area.

It's free to take part in Beat the Street and it's open to everyone regardless of age, ability or background. It's an inclusive game that encourages you to run, walk or cycle between Beat Boxes to earn points - hovering you fob or card over the Beat Boxes as you go! The further you travel, the more points you score!

Prior to the game, primary school pupils from participating schools will be provided with fobs while parents and teachers will receive a card from the school so they can accompany children.

The wider community can pick up a free contactless card from a distribution point which will be listed soon, once they are available, on the Beat the Street website.

Make sure you register your fob or card prior to playing at

Beat the Street will be delivered by Active Charnwood, the Sport and Physical Activity team at Charnwood Borough Council, Active Together and the South Charnwood School Sport and Physical Activity Network.
