The Charnwood Community Grant scheme has now been amalgamated with the Loughborough Community Engagement Grant and the Sport and Physical activity grants providing a more simplified single point for all applications

Charnwood Community Grants

  • Up to £5,000 available for voluntary and community sector organisations, including sports clubs / physical activity groups towards the delivery of community projects in Charnwood which meet the following strategic aims:
    • Healthy Communities
    • A Thriving Economy
    • Caring for the Environment.
  • New easy to complete application form.
  • Application submission deadline: Round 2 – Friday 10 September 2021.

Charnwood Community Facilities Grants

  • Up to £20,000 available for renovation, improvement and provision of community buildings, including facilities for disabled people. Please see updated guidance on ineligible routine maintenance.
  • Criteria now includes Community Centres, Village Halls, Community Sports Facilities.
  • Match funding is required to the value of 50% of the total project cost.
  • Application submission deadline: Round 2 – Friday 10 September 2021.

Applicants are advised to submit their applications as early as possible rather than waiting until the deadline, this will give us more opportunity to ask for further information if we need it to make a proper assessment.

Member Grants

  • Each Borough Councillor has up to £500 to support projects that bring benefits to their ward.
  • The recommendation how to allocate their grants budget is the responsibility of each individual Councillor, therefore it is important to speak to your Councillor before submitting an application.
  • The grant programme closes on Thursday 31 March 2022.

Additional Funding Opportunities

Leicestershire & Rutland Community Foundation - William Colton Youth Sports Fund

Key Features:

  • This fund is to support sports clubs, societies or groups that deliver sporting activities that benefit the physical and mental health of young people between the ages of 5 and 21.
  • This fund does not currently support football, darts, equestrian or dance based projects.
  • Applications are welcome from Sports Group and Organisations delivering sporting activities in areas of deprivation both urban and rural.
  • Smaller organisations that have limited access to larger funds.
  • Sports Group and Organisations delivering sporting activities across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, with priority given to applications delivering in the borough of Charnwood.
  • Priority is to fund:
    • Equipment
    • Training or coaching qualifications
    • Volunteer out of pocket expenses e.g. travel cost
    • Staffing, rental or hire costs that are clearly budgeted and only used for the project.
  • Grants are available across Leicestershire and Rutland from £1,000 up to £3,000 and must be spent within a year of receiving the grant.
  • Fund opens: August 1st 2021
  • Fund closes: September 30th at 5pm
  • Decisions will be made at a panel and groups will be notified by December 2021.

Winter Holidays Together: Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme

Applications open on 27th September

Leicestershire County Council, working with Active Together (formerly Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport), will operate as the coordinator for the Department for Education funded Holiday Activities & Food Programme across Leicestershire.

Leicestershire County Council will be awarding grants to Leicestershire Schools, voluntary and community sector organisations and other out of school/holiday activity organisations to provide free holiday provision for children eligible for benefits-related free school meals over winter 2021 (20th – 23rd December).

The aim is that the children who attend the provision will be supported:

  • to eat more healthily over the school holidays;
  • to be more active during the school holidays;
  • to take part in engaging and enriching activities;
  • to be safe and not to be socially isolated;
  • to have greater knowledge of health and nutrition; and
  • to be more engaged with school and other local services.

The closing date for applications will be Friday 22nd October 2021.
